6) Benefits

There are lots of benefits to doing yoga, especially physical and therapeutic ones. Here are some of them that are specific to this posture: Parivrtta Trikonasana.

Physical: Stretching
This pose focuses heavily on balance, for that you must have a strong foundation in your legs. By having that strong foundation and doing this posture correctly, not only can you strengthen and stretch your legs, but overtime you can also improve your sense of balance.

It also helps to stretch your hips and spine. Remember for you to balance on your legs you needed to externally rotate your knee, this helps to open up your hips. It helps the spine because you had to lengthen it before rotating your torso.

Therapeutic: Pain reliever

Doing this pose correctly can help ease mild back pain as it requires you to gently twist your torso as you place one hand down and reach one hand toward the sky. If you are gentle to yourself, your body will be gentle to you as well.

This pose can also help improve your breathing. When in the pose (one arm up, one down, legs in proper foundation, etc.) your chest will be free to open up instead of what we usually do: hunch over. Opening up helps your circulation too.

Please remember to be gentle to yourself and to take modifications if needed!
